Cardiac Arrest News

LA has cardiac arrest survival rates up to 29 percent. They use a protocol of 2 minutes of CPR prior to defibrillation and 20 minutes of working the patient on scene.

Funny neither intubation nor cardiac meds are mentioned. My feeling is that the future of 'Class I's' lies with more basic interventions.

Blogging the Packers/Titans Dopesheet

  • Teams have played only twice in the regular season in the last decade but have played 7 straight years in the pre season.
  • One more defensive TD will tie the record of the 1966 Super Bowl team.
  • 9 of 12 Rogers TD passes have come on 3rd down.
  • Packers have 13 ints, Titans 12.
  • Former Packer DB Chuck Cecil is a Titans assistant.
  • Packers Woodson and Collins Titans Finnegan and Wilson all have 4 ints each.
  • Ryan Grant is only the second Packer RB to have 30+ carries in consecuctive games.

Packers and Titans

The Tennesee Titans were the Houston Oilers up until 1999.  From the Oilers days Earl Campbell stands out.

Hall of Famer Campbell was an Oiler from 1978 to 1983.  During that time he had 36 carries for 181 yards in 1980 and 27 carries for 123 yards his only Oiler games v. the Packers.

Overall the Packers are 4-5 against the franchise, 0-2 v. the Titans 4-3 v. the Oilers.

Current Titan QB Kerry Collins QB's the Carolina Panthers in the 1997 NFC title game at Lambeau.  He threw for 215 and a TD.

Last meeting was a 48-27 Titan beating at Lambeau in 2004.

This game is at Tennesee and the Titans are 5.5 point favorites.

Top 4

Titans the only undefeated continue to be the AFC's top team. I'll stick with Buffalo over New England and Pitsburgh.

Giants top the NFC followed by new entry Carolina Panthers.

I'll say the Titans would beat the Bills while the Giants would topple Carolina.

In a Super Bowl match up I'd the have the physical Titans losing to the equally physical, but more multi dimensional, Giants.

Week 8 Pick

This weeks suicide pool pick is the Redskins over the Lions. The Redskins are favored by 8 which is low then again they are on the road....I'll continue to ride the team playing the Lions as long as I can. The Lions were pesky but ultimately losers.

For blog purposes I will keep track of my picks and post one each week.

Week 1 Cowboys over Browns
Week 2 Giants over Rams
Week 3 Bills over Raiders
Week 4 Chargers over Raiders
Week 5 Panthers defeat Chiefs
Week 6 Vikings over Lions
Week 7 Texans over Lions
Week 8 Redskins over Lions

Smarties go Dem

"Two years ago, a list of the nation’s brainiest cities was put together from Census Bureau reports — that is, cities with the highest percentage of college graduates, which is not the same as smart, of course.

These are vibrant, prosperous places where a knowledge economy and cool things to do after hours attract people from all over the country. Among the top 10, only two of those metro areas — Raleigh, N.C., and Lexington, Ky. — voted Republican in the 2004 presidential election.

This year, all 10 are likely to go Democratic. What’s more, with Colorado, New Hampshire and Virginia now trending blue, Republicans stand to lose the nation’s 10 best-educated states as well."

Week 7 Pick

This weeks suicide pool pick is the Texans at home as 8.5 point favorites over the Lions. The prone to run out of the end zone Lions QB loses Roy Williams lets ride the loser Lions another week!

For blog purposes I will keep track of my picks and post one each week.

Week 1 Cowboys over Browns
Week 2 Giants over Rams
Week 3 Bills over Raiders
Week 4 Chargers over Raiders
Week 5 Panthers defeat Chiefs
Week 6 Vikings over Lions
Week 7 Texans over Lions

Top 4

I'll put the Giants and the Buccaners atop the NFC (same as last week) with the Titans and Bills (replacing the Colts) the best of the AFC.

I'd say that sets up a Titans/Giants Super Bowl and I'd take the Titans.

Colts/Packers Keys Review

Colts specific keys:

1. Succeed with the run....Indys run defense is 29th, help them keep that ranking. Result: Grant over 100 and his first TD.

2. Don't let the 32nd ranked Colts running game get off on the leagues 27th ranked Run D. Further Colts top runner should miss game. Result: Run game was of no importance.

3. Both teams are +4 in turnovers but Packers have edge in takeaways so get some! Result: 2 INT's for TD's that works!

4. Depth: The Colts pay stars and fill the roster with lesser players. Hopefully a Jordy Nelson or Brandon Chillar will make a play to add to a win. Result: Chillar was featured as the Packers played mostly nickel defense.

5. Will there be a Justin Harrell sighting? Result: No and it didn't matter.

Colts/Packers Textable Game Review

Here is a ready to text game review:

Packers played their best game of the year. Their defense was aggressive, the offense precise, the special teams interesting. Best possible result pre bye week.

Colts/Packers Keys

Let me start by saying that in preface to game keys I will always list the following 3 for each game.

First the team needs to score TD's not FG's. Good teams do this. Second each game the special teams need to make a play be it a TD return, a key punt, strong coverage work, blocked extra point. Third turnovers need to be created. This along with special teams can lead to short fields making it easier to get 6 than three.

A long punt return to the 20 giving the offense a short TD drive is one way these can occur. Another might be good kick coverage pinning a team deep, then a force fumble leading to another short TD.

Call that general keys, my philosophy of football etc.

From the Dopesheet dated 14 October, 2008
  • Packers have lost consecuctive home games.
  • 5th meeting between teams in 20 years
  • Aaron Rogers has TD passes of 40 yards plus in the last three games. This is the first time for this feat since Lynn Dickey in 1976.
  • Despite just 5 penalties last week Green Bay leads league with 56 fouls.
  • Tony Dungy is 5-9 vs. Pack
  • Pack is 4th in punter return coverage, 13th in kick coverage.
  • For his career Greg Jennings averages 37.5 yards per TD catch
  • Donald Driver needs 3 grabs to pass James Lofton on the teams receptions list.

Colts/Packers Series History

From 1953 to 1970 the Packers and then Baltimore Colts played yearly. Indeed from 1953 to 1966 they played twice a year.

In 1965 they played 3 times with the final game being a 13-10 Green Bay victory in the Western Conference Championship.

Since 1984 when they became the Indianapolis Colts the teams have played just 6 times.

Peyton Manning entered the league in 1998 and has played the Packers just twice. In 2000 the Packers posted a 26-24 home win while in 2004 the Colts won 45-41 at Indy. Manning threw for 3 scores in the 2000 contest. In 2004 he threw for 5 TD's with 3 coming in the 1st quarter. 11 players remain from the 2004 Packer team including Chad Clifton and Colin Cole.

Overall the Colts lead the series 20 wins to 19.

Top 4

Despite their loss I put the Giants atop the NFC, and keep the Titans # 1 in the AFC.

The Buccaneers move up to #2 in the NFC and I'll take the Colts as the AFC # 2.

Going further I would put the Giants past the Bucs and take the Titans over the Colts with the Titans winning the Super Bowl.

Woodson and Grant record update

Charles Woodson had his 33rd career INT. This puts him 146th all time and 10th all time tied with Ronde Barber, Brian Dawkins and Walt Harris.

Ryan Grant finished with 33 carries a career high. This ties him for 2nd best in team history. In 1997 against Dallas Doresey Levens toted 33 times for 190 yards. In 2004 against the Panthers Green had 33 for 119 yards. Grant totaled 90 yards.

Packers/Seahawks Keys Review

1. Stop the run....SEA has 6th ranked run game, Packers defend it 27th best. Result: Held 'hawks to 113 yards, good enough.

2. Seattle has 25th ranked pass defense so get some big passing plays. Result: Took awhile but Rogers hit Jennings for the go ahead score.

3. Fight the fierce Seattle crowd by scoring early. Result: GB scored 1st but only a field goal.

4. Find the TE... a forgotten man. Result: Lee 2 for 9 so not yet.

5. Don't come close...win. Make plays not errors at key points. Result: The game turned when the Packers made a play that put them ahead. Move on.

Textable Game Review: Win at Seahawks

Here is a ready to text game review:

A win against a diminished opponent. Jennings pass from Rogers was key play. A major effort was made to run. The defense was ok against a one way offense.

Week 6 Pick

This weeks suicide pool pick is Minnesota over Detroit. The Vikings are 13.5 favorites at home against the god awful Lions. Heck I may just pick against the Lions the rest of the season! I'll take the 2 point Viking victory....just win baby.

For blog purposes I will keep track of my picks and post one each week.

First, let's review the teams performance on the general keys. They have scored 16 TD's to their opponents 13 while opponents have 12 FG's to 7.

Green Bay is +3 in turnovers which is 3rd.

Will Blackmon is 44th in kick off returns, Frost 19th in punting, Crosby has missed 2 FG's.

  • 2007 Packers Koren Robinson and Jon Ryan are Seahawks
  • Packers defense is last in forcing 3 and out series

Steelers, 86-46-1, 1
Eagles, 85-48, 0
Broncos, 81-52, 0
Packers, 80-53, 0

That puts Green Bay 2nd in the NFC and 6th overall.

Holmgrem

As former Packers coach Mike Holmgrem is in his last year as head man with the Seahwaks here's a did you know about him.... He was drafted in the 8th round of the 1970 draft by the St. Louis Cardinals. That same round the Cardinals drafted Tom Banks an Aurburn center who became an all pro (1975-1978) and the Rams selected Michigan State line backer Rich Saul was was a Pro Bowler from 1976 to 1981.

Terry Bradshaw was the first overall pick while the Packers at # 2 selected Mike McCoy DT of Notre Dame who never made the Pro Bowl. The Packerrs selected LB Jim Carter in the 3rd round the Minnesota Golden Gopher made the Pro Bowl in 1973.

Seahawks Packers Series History

The cities are nearly 2,000 miles apart with Seattle making you think of coffee and technology while Green Bay is about cheese and paper.

All time the Packers have a 6-5 edge over Seattle. Up until 1999 the series didn't have much juice. That was the first time that ex-Packers coach Mike Holmgrem coached Seattle.

Since then the teams have played 6 times including 2 in the playoffs. Green Bay has won 4 of those games including both post season contests. One post season contest was the Al Harris int return for TD and the other the snow game which was spectacular in HD!

Prior to 1999 the Packers won the first three games with Seattle then winning three straight.
4 games were played at Milwaukee County Stadium, while just 3 have been in Seattle with the Packers being 1-2 in Seattle.

The afc is still topped by the Titans followed by the Broncos.

The Giants are the national conferences best with the Redskins second.

Off this I'd predicy a Giants v. Titans Super Bowl with the Giants winning a second straight title.

Textable Game Review: Loss to Falcons

Should you need to here is a ready to text game review:

A slow start and crucial mistakes were the keys to a 3rd straight loss. Rogers played but tossed a key INT. Defense was bad v. the run. The punter was bad etc.

Falcons Game Key Review

With the exception of Donald Driver getting going all the other keys were on the Falcons side, and surprise a loss.

Ball Protection: 1 INT for Rogers, but a killer!

Defensive Line V. Falcons Run: Falcons came in averaging 181 got 176.

Falcons No Huddle: Atlanta got a TD out of it.

Drivers Drive: Driver got leveled and then came back with a TD.

Special Teams: He put 1 inside the 20 to the Falcon's 3.

Ball Protection:  If Rogers plays he must throw it to our team and Grant must hold onto the ball.
Defensive Line V. Falcons Run:  Falcons are # 1 rushing team, D line is depleted, what comes of this?

Falcons No Huddle:  Atlanta may run this package, can the Packers stop it and not get fatigued.

Drivers Drive:  What's up with Donald Drivers non productivity?  Will this be fixed?

Special Teams:  How much help will the Punter provide?

Packers/Falcons History

Series startred in 1966.  Packers won the first 5 games the Falcons the next 3.  Overall Packers lead 12-10.

A memorable game was in 1994 in Milwaukee when Favre dived for the end zone against his former team to put the Pack in the post season.

Teams have matched up twice in the playoffs.  In 1995 the Packers won 37-20 with the game including an Antonio Freeman 76 yard punt return.  In 2002 Atlanta crushed the Packers 27-7 in one of Michael Vick's two playoff wins.

Most recent meeting was 2005 a 33-25 Packers win with Favre passing to Samkon Gado for a TD.
