Have a Good Read: Swine Not

This is one of the most pleasant reads I have had in sometime.

Things like pigs in dog costumes, mad chefs, soccer fans and the milieux of New York make this volume a good time.

Have a Good Read: Sweepers

First book by this North Carolina author and Navy vet that I have read.

In the thriller genre. A pretty intriguing villan with maybe a few too many side stories. My interest in the book and its quality was up and down.

Overall about a 6/10. Good enough though that I will try by this author.

2 sets of Observations

1. Some opponents of health care worry that reform and change of the system will increase the deficit.

2. Some worry about 'death panels', end of life counseling.

3. They further worry about rationing of care.

4. There absolutist view that everyone should get all health care at any cost despite their wishes sure runs smack up against being worried about spening.
------------------

A. People go to health care town halls and shout, scream, disrupt and carry on.

B. They are compared to war protestors.

C. War protestors want to stop war and end killing. Do those protesting health care reform achieve the same or do they cost lives?

Have a Good Read: The Jedburghs

Picked this one up at the Airborne Musuem. Subject is three man multi national special operations teams of World War II.

Famous Jebburghs included William Colby and Stewart Alsop

An interesting subject but an average book. The material is too repitisous. Still it gives an important piece of the ever interesting Special Forces story.

Have a Good Read: My War

The first time I have read a book by an Iraqi war soldier. A balanced account of his time in Iraq. He puts combat stories, army life and his own life story together without a lot of wighning or commentary.

As a writer he's not as polished as I'd prefer. His reliance on the word 'like' gets a little annoying.

Still fine content in a little lesser of a package.

Have a Good Read: The Power of Less

Ran across this while packing to move from Michigan to North Carolina. The message is identify the essential and eliminate the rest. Quite a bit of that during our move!

Lots of good practical advice on subjects ranging from email to exercise to goals.

This will stay on the shelf for future use.

Have a Good Read: Soul of a dog

Not the best of Katz's animal books. He struggles between story telling, pyschology and religion.

The book does get bettter after Chapter 10 as his musings on the meanings and capabilities of animals hit home.

He says is trying fiction now and I look forward to those efforts.

Found out about this while at camp picked it up at Aurora Books in Menominee MI. A well plotted story about trying to prove an English WW II deserter is a saint. Characters include a dying priest, a disillioned doctor, a manipulative painter and a progressive bishop. Worth seeking it out!
