Have a Good Read: Telex From Cuba
An interesting book that covers Cuba in the immediate pre Castro period. Includes interesting sexual questions about the Castro brothers.
The book reads easily with a fairly fast moving plot. The characters are good. Along with this there are some fairly literary and non linear parts that don't detract from the more mainstream aspects.

The Lafayette Escadrille was a French air force unit that featured pilots who voluntered prior to America's official participation in WW I.
McConnell was born in Chicago and attended the University of Virginia. He spent about 5 years in Carthage as a businessman. McConnell wrote a 1st person account of flying in WW I.
