There are 9 boats starting the Barcelona World Race. As this is the first non stop double handed circumnavigation race there are 18 sailors. Generally there is a skipper and co-skipper. It is the skippers program and in a years time the skipper, such as Vincent Riou, will sail the boat in the Vendee Globe. The co-skipper then was selected just for this race.
Pachi Rivero is one of 2 Spaniards on board Mutua Madrilena. He is 43 years of age and married. Rivero has 8 Transats and 2 America's Cups in his past. Additionally he has Maxi experience and is considered an excellent shore team member. Rivero is certainly one of the least known sailors in the race but an around the world is an excellent reputation building opportunity.
