There are 9 boats starting the Barcelona World Race. As this is the first non stop double handed circumnavigation race there are 18 sailors. Generally there is a skipper and co-skipper. It is the skippers program and in a years time the skipper, such as Alex Thomson
will sail the boat in the
Vendee Globe. The co-skipper then was selected just for this race.
45 year old Andrew Cape is the sole Southern Hemisphere native contesting the Barcelona World
Race. Cape has completed 3 Volvo/Whitebread Around the World races, won 5 Sydney Hobarts and an America's Cup. He is best known as a navigator. And like Thomson he has abandoned a boat (VO 70 Movistar) in mid ocean.
