Barcelona World Race Sailor Info: Dominque Wavre

There are 9 boats starting the Barcelona World Race. As this is the first non stop double handed circumnavigation race there are 18 sailors. Generally there is a skipper and co-skipper. It is the skippers program and in a years time the skipper, such as Alex Thomson will sail the boat in the Vendee Globe. The co-skipper then was selected just for this race.

52 year old Swiss man Dominique Wavre is 1/2 of the race's oldest crew. Dominiques experience at the tops levels of the sport date to 1982 and his 1st Whitebread Round the World race. He did a further Whitebread in 1986, then again in 1990 and 1994. In 2001 he switched to Open 60's completing the Vendee Globe and setting a 24 hour record. He finished 4th in the 2004/2005 Vendee Globe. Since then he has built his second Open 60 Temenos 2 and plans to sail his 3rd Vendee in what could be his 8th circumnavigation!
