Barcelona World Race: Winds as high as 50 kts

Summary: PRB holds the lead with the fleet chasing most at 15 knots or more. The curve they have been sailing is flattening out and they are beginning a more strictly easterly course.

Details:
  • Hugo Boss shows a high speed of 20.7 knots.
  • Estrella Damm has a 24 hour run of 411 miles a single mile better than Hugo Boss.
  • Veolia and Hugo Boss are now past 40° south latitude.
References: Gough Island

Weather: NW wind starting at 25 and as high as 40.

Quotes: Alex Thomson: "I don’t think it will be long before we catch Veolia. We have up to twenty knots from the north and have the jibs and full main sail up and still a little underpowered still."

Sidney Gavignet "The speed is perhaps due to Youri Buenaventura. Salsa and sea in the south might seem like a funny mixture but I decided to give myself that pleasure, but there is the obvious lack of a partner since Jérémie doesn’t dance!"
