World Almanac Blog Pierce's Veep

In 2008 I will blog on items found in the World Almanac. This is a yearly Christmas gift I have grown to cherish. M thru F you will read items that maybe chronological, topical or random.

Obscure U.S. President Franklin Pierce (Son of Benjamin Pierce not of M*A*S*H fame) (P. 519) had William R. King as his Vice President. King had TB when nominated and took his oath of office in Cuba. He took the oath March 24th and died April 18th. This makes King the shortest serving VP in U.S. History. As per custom the VP slot was not filled and the Senate President Pro Tempore would have succeeded.
