The last day has been about warm temperatures, lightning and precipiation.
Yesterday at 0700 the temperature was 33°. Then a warm front passed and every hour until 1800 the temperature increased peaking at 61 degrees. From noon to 1300 the temperature gained 5 degrees! Also during this period the barometer declined 10 MB.
Rain was also a near constant with as much .35 inches falling in an hour. For the day the total was .97 inches, meaning March is already over an inch more rainy than normal.
Especially after dark there was considerable lightning. Lightning is definitely scary and can be deadly with around 70 per year in the US killed by it. As for safety count the time from lightning to thunder. If under 30 seconds then take shelter.
It was the first summer type nite. Things were moving fast with sun here and storms there. Sudden rain squalls yet warm temps. The wind was if not exactly warm then at least neutral as far as temperature.
Rain will continue until this afternoon with a tail of thunderstorms stretching back across Lake Michigan to Chicago.
