Barcelona World Race Sailor Info: Alex Thomson

There are 9 boats starting the Barcelona World Race. As this is the first non stop double handed circumnavigation race there are 18 sailors. Generally there is a skipper and co-skipper. It is the skippers program and in a years time the skipper, such as Vincnet Riou, will sail the boat in the Vendee Globe. The co-skipper then was selected just for this race.

Alex Thomson (blonde hair) is a 33 year old Brit skipper of Hugo Boss. He has perhaps the starkest story of the competing sailors. Won the Clipper Round the World Race. Upon entering Open 60's set the 24 hour record.

Then he did not finish the 2004-2005 Vendee Globe, had to abandon the 2005-2006 5 Oceans and be rescued by Mike Golding. A lighter right foot is often thought to be Alex's need. Whether these incidents were purely boat related and beyond his control or due to his over driving the boat is a subject of discussion.

With a new boat Thomson has the equipment and surely must find a way to at least finish or there'll more evidence against him.
