Barcelona World Race: Tuesday

Image from Delta Dore highlight conditions

PRB having made 151 miles in 24 hours has taken the lead by 8 miles over Paprec Virbac. Delta Dore holds the final podium position but is positioned much closer to the Spanish shore than the boats ahead.

PRB's Vincent Riou is sailing the here and now: "We are not looking beyond Gibraltar right now trying to properly manage the first section of the route. Perhaps we’ll look at the next stage later this evening, but right now is pretty crucial and a lot could be at stake here."

Farther into the Medeteranan Estrella Damm, Temenos and Hugo Boss trail by 30 to 42 miles. In the lite conditions it looks like the closer to land affect winds you were the better. From Temenos Dominique Wavre says, "It’s sunny during the day and the sky is full of stars during the night. It’s kind but hard conditions because you have to manoeuver a lot."

Trailing by 56 miles and 2nd to last is Veoila. Typically a fast boat perhaps the Juan K upgrades have not been good for lite airs.

Lite air spinnakers are now the sail of choice. As they sail to Gibraltar no more than 10 knots is expected.
