4's Failure

I was a tremendous Favre fan.  He came to the Packers when I went to college in Green Bay.  In his wild early years I actually got into a bar room brawl defending him.


OK then came the retirement.  The tears etc.  So I felt he was done and we move on.  I still have my special edition SI, the Green Bay paper from that time etc.  


And then the ugly comeback.  The choice of Rogers.


His leaving the Packers has allowed me to see Favre more objectively.  The numbers are amazing and superlative.  The consecuctive games streak is mind boggling.


But since the Super Bowl win the post season has not been favorable to Favre.  The second Super Bowl, the Philly interception, the multi pick fiasco game in St. Louis, the horrible int v. the Giants and now the fatal pick in New Orleans.  Those are just a lot of bad endings to seasons.


Of course he was suceeded by Aaron Rogers.  #12 has been more than able.  The Packers season ended on his mistake.  But things are more ahead of him than behind.  Letting go of Favre was never a certainty but its strongly arguable the Packers made the right decision for the team if not a given player. Message:  we are all replaceable.


Like many I was a Packer fan from early times of my life.  Favre is the greatest Packer of my life time.  Once he left the team I continue to root for the team first and players second.


Emotionally I have to admit I was hurt by Favre's tears and then mind changing.  Ultimately I place him second to my favorite team.  And considering some of the evidence we should have expected yesterday's late failure.

P.S.  For the record: Favre's last pass as a Falcon, Jets, Packers and Vikings ... all interceptions.
